Oaklands Catholic School

Developer Level - Practical Strand

The Oaklands Youth St Vincent de Paul (SVP) group works to fulfil the ideals of it's founder, Frederic Ozanam, through offering practical assistance to those disadvantaged or in poverty. Every week during one lunch time, two separate groups go out to help in the local community.

One of these goes to our feeder primary school, St Peter's, where they spend time in class supporting individuals as well as holding one to one reading sessions outside the lesson.

The other group visit the Age Concern Centre in Cowplain, undertaking a range of tasks from the practical distribution of drinks to social chat to coordinating games and quizzes. At Christmas the students in the SVP group plan and host an in school Christmas celebration for the members of the Age Concern Centre, to include refreshments, music and a quiz.
